? About Wayne Ngan

I am a computational scientist living in Toronto, Ontario. I grew up in Hong Kong and moved to Vancouver with my family when I was twelve. After finishing my undergraduate studies in the University of British Columbia, I moved to Toronto to pursue a PhD in computational astrophysics at the University of Toronto. Scientific interests

I am interested in writing code to solve numerical problems in general. For my PhD thesis, I focused on the computational aspect of astronomy where I used numerical simulations to simulate astrophysical systems. Both the simulations and the analysis were too large to fit into a single computer, so the code had to be run in parallel in high-performance computing facilities. The results helped us understand how to use the dynamics of stars to probe the distribution of dark matter in our galaxy.

Personal interests

Aside from my profession, I spend much of my free time yo-yoing as a hobby. In addition to playing yo-yos on my own for fun, I often lead public activities that introduce the hobby to newcomers. I am a freelance yoyo demonstrator, and I also manage the Toronto Yo-Yo club and the Canadian Yo-yo Association.
